1c Black, Silk on Orange Red Wrapper

Unused, this wrapper has the usual folds and staining which often occurs on these wrappers, nearly full margins all around, this stamp is currently unlisted in Scott but has been around for many, many years in some of the most important collections, recently it was listed in the Inman sale as orange paper but has since been examined by the Philatelic Foundation and a certificate has been issued as red orange paper which in our opinion is accurate, the orange red color is the same as on the United States Proprietary Co. issues where this color is well known and well documented, we have listed this particular item on our census for many years as red orange paper but Scott has not yet listed this variety, in fact there may be a couple of watermarked examples known on this red orange paper but this variety is also not listed, a most unusal item and the discovery piece, (ENV 15,000-20,000)
