$5 Green & Black on Intermediate Paper
Very light MC, deep dark color and strong impression, sm. thin at B., two tiny tears at L., the perforations are just touching at L., this stamp has been mired in controversy for many years, several years ago this stamp was sold as green paper and resided in an important collection as such, in 2016 it was submitted to the PF and came back as intermediate paper, it was submitted to PSAG and came back as violet paper and then reconned to the PF in 2018 and they retained their opinion regarding intermediate paper, we have spent a considerable amount of time examining and comparing this stamp to other green papers from the same issue and in our opinion the paper color is green not the grayish green associated with the intermediate paper, but none-the-less the stamp is being offered here as it is certified, regardless it may be necessary for Scott to develop an intermediate paper listing for this first issue since all the other denominations also exist in the intermediate paper color, it is unknown how many of the violet paper stamps out there are actually intermediate, we are listing this information in our census as it becomes available for other $5 examples known, so what is the intermediate paper worth? it is our opinion it is worth at least twice as much as the violet paper but certainly not anywhere near the rare green paper value, hopefully the market and Scott will catch up, (ENV 10,000-12,500)
